Banana Patch Studio
One of Each Please!
Banana Patch Studio was started in 1991 by Joanna Carolan. Joanna first came to Kauai in 1967. She made the Garden Isle her permanent home in 1991. Joanna studied watercolor painting at the University of California., Santa Cruz, and design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco. From 1989 to 1990 she studied ceramics in Australia with ceramicist Judy McDermott.
Joanna’s work is inspired by the Hawaiian culture and the natural beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. One of her ceramics was presented to the President of Tahiti by the Mayor of Kauai in 1994. Joanna’s largest work to date is a 20 foot tile mural she hand painted for the Embassy Vacation Resort, Ka’anapali, Maui.
All tiles, trivets, wall plaques and pottery are hand painted using lead-free glazes, and are kiln fired to 1890F. Tiles come with a masonite backing and are ready to hang-unless otherwise requested. Custom designs are available; please call for information or price quote.
Joanna Carolan’s art prints are reproduced from her original watercolor paintings using state-of-the -art print technology. All prints are matted and individually signed.
Her studio and gallery is located in the Historic Chang Building located in Old Hanapepe town on the sunny west side of Kauai.
Also visit the gallery in the Kong Lung Building located in Kilauea on the road to the Kilauea lighthouse.
