Coconut Patty
Coconuts are my life!
ha ha ha ha..honestly
“I have been in the coconut business for over 20 years, hence Coconut Patty and I am so honored to have that plant in my life.” Patty Fontanilla
What started with an interest in coconut, which lead us to the Avocado Festival in Captain Cook where we met Coconut Patty. In Hawaii that’s how it works; one festival leads to another good find. There she was, holding up an unassuming bag of chopped and sweetened coconut. Before we could say “sold” she stuffed a bag in our arms and said “check it out.” That one bag has gone a long way. Besides the part we took with us on the Alii Drive Art Walk the following day, another part of the bag left for Texas on Monday and another for Arizona on Tuesday. By Thursday is was g-o-n-e and just this morning the comments started coming in. “Send more!”
Patty Fontanilla and her husband Dado are so pleased to be working with the awesome coconut plant. They started in the coconut business in 1991, in Hana Maui. The Hana Highway is famous for it’s coconut candy, and Patty was lucky enough to learn the original “Aunty’s” recipe. Although the only the ingredients are fresh coconut and Maui Gold sugar, it is the preparation and having the “right hand” to make it perfect. So tasty, so healthy, and so Hawaiian.
You can find Coconut Patty at the Keauhou Farmer’s Markets in Kona, or you can call or email them for shipping at (808)929-8730. cocopat@hawaiiantel.net.

I’ve tried her coconut candy, and it’s sooo good and addictive – a great Kona find.
I LOVE Coconut candy!! I had the pleasure of helping Patty make a batch once upon a time. Tried to duplicate it at home … it’s not the same :( I’m going back November 2011 and hope to see her again. Love you Patty. Miss you so I’m coming back.
Dear Patty, I had the Aunties candy on the road as well. I brought back to Denver some maui gold Sugar, bought a coconut here in Denver. Would you mind sharing your recipe for the candy so I can give it a try ? I have found many recipes for it however yours is the only one I see using the gold sugar and I feel yours wolud be the right recipe I would want to use to make the candy.
Thank you,
Helen
Just got some coconut candy from Coconut Patty, that some friends brought back from the Big Island. Hands down the best coconut treat I’ve ever had. Wish I could find it at the market here in the States! Thank you and YUM!!
I just returned to California from the Big Island last night. We discovered Coconut Patty’s Ginger coconut candy at the farmers market in Kona.
We bought 3 bags for gifts. We opened one and then there were none. I will be ordering more and think it would be great on top of Vanilla bean ice cream or Haupia coconut pudding if you can resist gobbling it up the day it arrives in the mail. Lovely.
We just went to the Shopping center market garden and bought a bag of the coconut candy and now we want a case. Hope we can find out where the next market garden is and find some more. It is amazing even the people that don’t like coconut loved this.
