Hawaiian Happy Cakes
Happy Holidays with Happy Cakes!
Another Made in Hawaii Festival BIG find. Happy Cakes. How could we not ask about these? Happy Cakes – a fun guilt-free name for this wonderful and tasty sugar high. These heavenly wonders are nothing like fruit cakes – don’t even go there! These are a yummy combination of Big Island macadamia nuts, Hawaiian pineapple, fresh coconut and the best baking ingredients around. Light and delicious – and we mean really delicious.
Owen, the owner (just caught that) explained his situation with the company – what a great story. He moved over from London, England looking to buy or start a business in the land of surf and shaka. Time to chill out from a hectic career in the financial arena. One new friend lead to another and before he knew it he bought the brand Happy Cakes from the original creator Dick Rodby. However, Owen did not realize the depth of the reputation Happy Cakes enjoyed throughout the Hawaiian islands and beyond. When locals asked what he did here – he said “I own Happy Cakes“. It was only after time and time again hearing everyone who heard this exclaim “I love Happy Cakes, we’ve eaten them since we were kids” that Owen caught on.
Happy Cakes is a Hawaiian tradition, enjoyed since 1967 when the first Happy Cake was served. And as the locals here in Hawaii say “still ‘ono’ after so long!”
We asked if he was ever tempted to change the original recipe – to which is replied “no way, I’m afraid to touch it!”
