Kai,  “Spice Girl” Hawaii!

Kaiulana (Kai) is one magical chef.  Not only is she exquisitely and professionally trained in the culinary arts,  she’s a local girl who remembers shopping at the farmers markets in Oahu with her Mom and learning early on the importance of fresh ingredients.

Kai was wok’n BIG time at the Made in Hawaii Festival where a crowd watched in fascination as she combined her special spices with all kinds of yummy ingredients into a huge wok  – when finished, she handed out treats. Oh, we like treats.  We turned one biteful into a fantastic connection and immediately we knew Kai was going to be a unique find for ReallyHawaiian.com.   Kai is an energy transmitter.  She has this ability to grab you with her smile and then hypnotize you with her chef’ing talents.  Kai’s booth was hoppin’ at the show and her spices were selling off the racks.  We picked up the 4 piece sampler and couldn’t wait to try them for ourselves.

As soon as we got home (Big Island) we got busy in the kitchen.  The whole Really Hawaiian hui was cookin’ up magic thanks to Kai. We made Kai’s Exotic Curry first – the recipe is impressive and so easy.  We can’t wait to make this for Mom ~ our family chef, when she visits in November.  It’s always fun to impress Mom.  Back to these spices … Kaiulani Spices!

Kai has a total of 4 unique spice products – Chinese 5 Spice Rub & Seasoning / Exotic Curry Rub & Seasoning / Kona Coffee Rub & Seasoning / Hawaiian Spice Rub & Seasoning.   The Coffee one threw us for a loop until we made her recipe for Kona Coffee Burger with Wasabi Mayo – we made them as sliders vs. big burgers and ohhhhh yea we get it now – ono’licious Kona Coffee rub.  We have yet to try all the spices, and Kai has some mouth-watering recommendations for combing them together, but we will.  Tonight we’re making the Exotic Curry AGAIN ’cause we just love it!  Hope time flies today – we’re hungry after writing this.
