From a youthful vision in 1981 when Kumu Farms first broke grounds on Moloka’i to steady expansion through hard work, dedicated crews and practical ingenuity, Kuma Farms is today a leading “certified organic” old-fashioned farm. Independent, self sustaining and healthy.
To succeed they have had to pioneer and adapt—finding new markets and then, as competitors caught on and began flooding those markets, pushing ahead to the next new emerging culinary idea. At first they sold mixed vegetable crops to wholesalers in Honolulu. Then in the mid-’80s they followed the Pacific Regional Cuisine movement and started supplying all sorts of specialty vegetables and herbs directly to celebrity chefs at Hawai‘i’s best hotels. In 1986 they began shipping fresh Herbs to New York City and launched a Pesto line in 1994. By the end of that decade they were exporting all major culinary Herbs to large cities across the U.S.Mainland.
In the mid 90′s they begain production on SunRise / Strawberry Papayas. Sweet, firm and delicious, papaya provides more potassium and vitamins A and C than apples and oranges. We offer Rainbow (yellow flesh) and Sunred (pink flesh) papaya. Both are grown to perfection and harvested tree ripened to insure maximize sweetness and flavor. Take your pick!
We also LOVE their pesto sauce – easy to order, comes in basil mac nut and cilantro lime, great and easy to use.
