MAUI’S WINERY
Written by Claudine PlasmanAlso known as Tedeschi Vineyards, Maui’s Winery offers a wonderful selection of locally made fine wines including pineapple wines, grape wines, and their specialty raspberry wine. Notably, their Maui Brut received national recognition when it was served at the inauguration of President Reagan and the winery has been featured by Chef Emerill Legasse and Master Sommelier Andrea Immer.
Established in 1974, Maui’s Winery located on the slopes of Haleakala is the only commercial winery located on Maui. Despite the challenge of growing high quality grapes in a tropical climate, Maui Winery has succeeded in utilizing their 2000 foot elevation and rich volcanic soil to their advantage, producing 30,000 cases of wine per year including reds, whites, sparkling, and their specialty desert wine Framboise de Maui.
Located at Ulupalakua Ranch, Maui’s Winery is surrounded by a rich history and heritage. Boasting more than 180,000 guests per year, visitors can enjoy a tour of the grounds and winery operations and visit the King’s Cottage where the wines are offered for tasting and purchase. For those unable to visit Maui’s Winery, their website offers online purchase of their wines and other products as well as information regarding the history of Maui Winery and Ulupalakua Ranch.
