Na Makua
Uniquely beautiful
Na Makua is a line of casual Hawaiian wear by father and son designers, Nelson and Kainoa Makua from Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. Their designs reflect the natural beauty of Puna – the vast lava fields, the scented ouhala groves and ohia forests echoing with the songs of native birds. Their distinctive graphics are personal reflections about who they are as native Hawaiians and are often inspired by “Olelo no eau” (Hawaiian sayings) that speak of their rich heritage. These poetic sayings reveal a deeper meaning that bring us closer to the everyday thoughts and lives of the Hawaiians that created them and offer an understanding of the essence and origins of traditional Hawaiian values.
Since the introduction of their line in 1999, Nelson and Kainoa have become known for their signature designs. In 200 they opened their firs retail store in historic downtown Hilo.
